Hi all,
I thought that maybe other lists might like an English translation ( loosely!!) of the Pommernlied.
I did a very loose translation (for my mother's funeral last October she was from Vangerin Abbau and Köslin), but I hope you get the yearning it expresses in the original German.

I have been trying to translate the 'Hymn of Pomerania' from German into
English without much success.
Hi,
I translated the lyrics (very loosely!) for my mother's funeral last October....
Hope that hlps. :-) Bobbie Schmidt
as follows:
Song of Pomerania
When in quiet hour dreams surround me
unseen spirits glad tidings bring,
speak of my homeland to me.
bright ocean sands
dark forest's edge
bright ocean sands
dark forest's edge.
White sails soar on the blue sea,
white gulls cradle in blue heights,
blue forests crown white sandy dunes
Pomerania, my yearning turns to you!
From the distance my thoughts turn to you,
from the distance trusted greetings sent.
carry soft winds, my greeting and soon,
waft quiet and soft, faithful love's sound.
(You) are the only one in this whole world,
(You) are mine, I am yours,
faithful to you inclined,
can nonetheless, from all I've ever seen,
alone please me.
Pomerania, so beautiful.
Now I'm wandering,
am soon here, soon there,
yet from everywhere I'm driven away:
Until I find, in you, again my rest,
I send my songs,
oh homeland, to you!
