Developing Software like a band plays Jazz (Dirk Bäumer)

In the Eclipse project we were able to ship releases on time year after
year. Like many other effective teams we have adapted and evolved our
practices and those we learned from the agile community along the way.
At the same time we have found that there are still many pain points
when it comes to software development in an agile team.
Being tool smiths ourselves, we have naturally been asking what if we
had an integrated tool set to address these pain points.
These explorations eventually turned into the Jazz project, which has as
its goal to build a new team collaboration platform.
In this talk I provide an overview of Jazz and show how the distributed
Jazz team is using Jazz for developing Jazz and Rational Team Concert
Express.
Dirk Bäumer is a Senior Software Developer at IBM Rational and currently
leads the development on the Agile Planning Component of the Jazz
project. On the Eclipse project he is a committer since it began. Dirk
has been working as a senior developer on JFace, the generic workbench
and the Java development tooling. He led the Eclipse JDT/UI component
and was a member of the Eclipse architecture team. His interests are in
the areas of user interfaces, integrated development environments and
object oriented software architectures.

Register for a special one day hands-on workshop on IBM's Jazz-based
Rational Team Concert Express. In this workshop you'll learn how to
apply its features and functionality to your team's daily development
activities. We'll give you the basics on setting up a team, introducing
new members and creating plans.
You'll learn how Rational Team Concert Express handles builds, exploring
changes and traceability. Finally, we'll explore how Rational Team
Concert supports process customization and multi-stream development.
If you're a Java developer with experience in Eclipse-based
technologies, you'll get the most out of this course. Attendance will be
limited so register soon!
Steve Wasleski, a developer for IBM Rational Software, has a long
history in application development tools, including IBM VisualAge C++
and IBM VisualAge for Java. Steve was the release technical lead for IBM
WebSphere Application Developer Version 4, the first commercially
available Eclipse based product.
Steve spent three years as the technical lead for the team that manages
the relationship between the Eclipse open source project and the IBM
product development community. Steve is currently a member of IBM's Jazz
Jumpstart team.
In this role, he presents workshops, helps customers with pilots and
proof-of-concept efforts and helps grow the Jazz community.
Philippe Krief has a PhD in Computer Science from Paris VIII University,
France. He is Senior SW Architect for IBM Rational. He has been involved
in object-oriented projects, software development and prototyping
systems for more than 20 years. He is an Eclipse committer for the eRCP
project. Philippe is a member of IBM's Jazz Jumpstart team. In this
role, he presents workshops, helps customers with pilot projects,
proof-of-concept efforts and helps grow the Jazz community mainly in
Europe.
