A thought from G.W.F. Hegel:

"... ein jeder ist seines eigenen Glückes Schmied. Hierin liegt, daß der
Mensch überhaupt nur sich selbst zu genießen bekommt. Die
entgegengesetzte Ansicht ist dann die, daß wir die Schuld von dem, was
auf uns fällt, auf andere Menschen, auf die Ungunst der Verhältnisse und
dergleichen schieben. Dies ist dann wieder der Standpunkt der Unfreiheit
und zugleich die Quelle der Unzufriedenheit. Indem dagegen der Mensch
anerkennt, daß, was ihm widerfährt, nur eine Evolution seiner selbst ist
und daß er nur seine eigene Schuld trägt, so verhät er sich als ein
Freier und hat in allem, was ihm begegnet, den Glauben, daß ihm kein
Unrecht geschieht. Der Mensch, der in Unfrieden mit sich und seinem
Geschick lebt, begeht gerade um der falschen Meinung willen, daß ihm von
anderen Unrecht geschehe, viel Verkehrtes und Schiefes. Nun ist zwar in
dem, was uns geschieht, allerdings auch viel Zufälliges. Dies Zufällige
ist indes in der Natürlichkeit des Menschen begründet. Indem der Mensch
aber sonst das Bewußtsein seiner Freiheit hat, so wird durch das
Mißliebige, was ihm begegnet, die Harmonie seiner Seele, der Friede
seines Gemüts nicht zerstört. Es ist also die Ansicht von der
Notwendigkeit, wodurch die Zufriedenheit und die Unzufriedenheit der
Menschen und somit ihr Schicksal selbst bestimmt wird." (Hegel, Enz. I

"...life is what you make of it. This implies that the individual
generally only gets to enjoy him/herself. The opposing view is then that
we push the blame for what falls upon us onto others, onto unfavourable
circumstances and suchlike. This is then, in turn, the stand-point of
unfreedom and at the same time the source of dissatisfaction. If, by
contrast, the individual recognizes that what happens to him is only an
evolution of himself and that he only bears his own
culpability/blame/debt, then he conducts himself as a free individual
and has in all that he encounters the belief/faith that nothing wrong is
happening to him. The individual who is living in discord with himself
and his lot commits, precisely for the sake of the false opinion that
others are doing wrong to him, much that is mistaken and cock-eyed. Now,
among that which happens to us there is indeed also much that is
contingent, but this is grounded in the naturalness of human being. In
that, however, the individual otherwise has an awareness of his freedom,
the harmony of his soul, the tranquillity of his heart will not be
destroyed by unwanted things he encounters. It is therefore the view of
necessity through which the satisfaction or dissatisfaction of people
